WATER FROM ROCKS

Going back to Coal Country - a Visual Essay.

A rich collection of interviews, personal photographs, and poetic writing weaves together the story of Matthew and his friend James as they make a poignant return to Coal Country. In their quest to reconnect with familial roots, they revisit the forgotten coal camp of "Blackstar," uncovering memories that have long lain dormant. This journey is beautifully documented in a 200-page book, meticulously designed by Matthew himself.

Matthew took full creative ownership of the project, designing every aspect of the book—from the spine and cover to each interior page. He also oversaw the production and printing processes, ensuring a high-quality final product. The book was then made available in art bookstores along the U.S. East Coast and featured in the first edition of PEEP Publication, offering readers a glimpse into a powerful narrative that resonates with themes of memory and heritage.
